Overview

Yoti is a digital identity system. You can prove your age, verify the identity of people you meet online, prove your identity to businesses and log in to websites without passwords.

I was responsible for its mobile design, user flows, prototypes and mockups for a wide range of products like landing pages, dashboard and admin system. Closely collaborating with developers, project managers and researchers.

Problem

Upon registration, users must complete a liveness test to validate their account. This confirms that the person registering is the true owner of their ID and not a robot. The test involves recording a short video while saying three randomly generated words.

In its original state, Yoti suffered a drop-off of about 40% of registered users due to usability issues.

Solution

The final design included the opportunity for the user to review their videos which included audio to make sure they said the correct words loud enough.

To validate the designs we needed a high fidelity prototype and so we decided to use Origami Studio. This enabled us to easily work with the phone native camera to record the video, store the video and play it back.
